A Message from COL Jason A. Johnston, Commander, 3rd Special Forces Group
Friends of 3rd Special Forces Group,
First off, Happy Independence Day!
I’m Jason Johnston, the new Commander of 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), and have just taken over for COL Nate Prussian on 12 June. We did this “Change of Command” with no fanfare, no ceremony, no catering, and no speeches. Nate deserved a ceremony to highlight his and the Group’s achievements over the last two years, but just like the quiet professional he is, he spent 12 June commanding the JSOTF in Somalia. I can’t thank Nate enough for his sacrifice, how he’s cared for this Group, and for how easy he’s made it for me as I came on board.
I’ve been in and out of 3rd SFG since 2004, and consider these men and women my family. I would like to begin by saying how much I appreciate your care for that family. We are extremely fortunate to have people such as you within our community. Words simply cannot convey the amount of gratitude I personally have for your patriotism, generosity, and care for this Group. You’ve had a tremendous positive impact on our soldiers and their family members over the years. Thank you!
We are reinstituting our periodic updates on Group activities to you through this email distribution. You are a vital part of our extended family and I want to ensure you continue to stay informed about key events, as well as the many outstanding things our men and women of 3d Special Forces Group continues to accomplish throughout the world on your behalf.
I recognize we are all dealing with a “new normal” due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a dynamic time in not only American history, but the world as whole. Our soldiers continue to diligently work to maintain operational readiness and protect our National interests globally. We currently have soldiers in support of operations throughout Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. These phenomenal Americans continue to persevere and sacrifice so much in order to ensure global security, maintain legitimate democracies and defeat tyranny.
Again, thank you for all you have done for this organization. You are a member of our team and I will ensure to keep you informed as we navigate our way through this current crisis and beyond. Please feel free to visit our Memorial Walk at the Group Headquarters and see the names of those who paid the ultimate price for our continued freedom.
I look forward to meeting all of you.
Sincerely,
Jason Johnston
