The Bennie Adkins Foundation
The Bennie Adkins Foundation’s mission is to honor the legacy of courage, sacrifice, selfless service, and patriotism inherent in the Special Forces by providing educational scholarships to worthy soldiers to aid in their transition from military into civilian life and career advancement while on active duty. Bennie spent the majority of his military career in the Special Forces, including three tours in Viet Nam, and was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor. While transitioning during the tumultuous times after the war, and knowing the importance of education, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree and, eventually, two Master’s degrees. This allowed him to establish and operate an accounting business for the remainder of his working life.
After being awarded the Medal of Honor in 2014, and the desire to “give back”, he founded The Bennie Adkins Foundation to award scholarships to deserving NCOs seeking an education as a means of helping their transition into civilian life. Active, recently separated, and recently retired Green Berets E5-E9 are eligible to receive $1000 scholarships, and are eligible for up to four awards. The Foundation is able to modify the awards based on need, for example, larger awards for graduate school or more concentrated need due to larger coursework load during SWCS tour. TBAF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. More than 90% of donations are used for scholarship awards. More than $60,000 in scholarships were awarded in 2021.
Through TBAF we are able to continue the legacy of Bennie Adkins and accomplish his goal of giving back to the Special Forces regiment.
